Texting a dry texter without trying too hard
Updated 2026-11-05
Short answer: Ask fewer questions and share more. Give her short, specific things to react to, and move to a call or a date sooner. Some people just text dry and are great in person.
Signs you're dealing with a dry texter (not a disinterested one)
- She replies, just briefly.
- She sometimes asks a question back.
- She says yes to plans.
If all three are missing, it may be low interest. See one-word answers.
What to send
- A statement, not an interview: "I just tried oat milk in my coffee and I've made a terrible mistake"
- A this-or-that: "Beach trip or cabin in the woods?"
- A photo with one line: a picture of your terrible cooking with "Rate it out of 10"
- A plan: "I'm better in person than over text. Drinks Thursday?"
What not to do
- Fire off five questions in a row.
- Match her dryness. Two dry texters is a dead chat.
- Ask "why are you so dry?"
FAQ
How long should my texts be? About the length of hers, plus one hook. Should I just ask her out? Often yes. Dry texters tend to prefer meeting to typing.
